Church Roof Renovation, your donations are needed
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
Introduction, Mission and Vision
In March of 1952, four Canadian Jesuit Missionaries Frs. Maurice Begin, Philippe Quimet, Roland Dussault and Gerard Bourque, began their missionary work in a rented Japanese-style building in Taipei. This location marked the founding of the Holy Family Catholic Church; it was the fourth church of the Archdiocese of Taipei.
In 1957, Fr. Maurice Belhumeur expanded the holy sanctuary to include a third worshipping space, which is now the current church building. This church was designed by architect Mr. Bo-Nian Lin and went into service January, 10, 1965.
The current Holy Family Catholic Church is located on Xinsheng South Road, facing Daan Forest Park. In addition to regular Masses and liturgical services, the church is also used as a venue for concerts as well as other activities and events. The Taipei Archdiocese frequently uses Holy Family Church to celebrate large ceremonies.
The Church can accommodate more than one thousand people. It is also a very beautiful and quiet place to pray. As such, it is a place for personal growth through worship and liturgical celebrations. Holy Family Church is also a shrine for pilgrimage. It is open to the public and so tourists come to enjoy the beautiful religious art.
As the years have gone by, age has started to take a toll on the building, for example, paint on the walls has begun to peel and during heavy rainfall, water leaks into the building.
At the suggestion of enthusiastic parishioners we have formed the "Holy Family Renovation Workgroup." It includes several experts that have examines the church construction and proposed a renovation plan.
We have now selected one construction company among five competitors, and have now started the renovation project. According to the plan, the construction will proceed in two phases: the first is the work of waterproofing the roof and the second is the renovation of the interior walls. Each of these works will cost NTD 6 million, which makes the total NTD 12 million.
Scope of Works: (Fundraising Items)
The Work of Waterproofing the Roof includes:
Installing scaffolding, washing the exterior walls, repairing windows (adding anti-rust protection), applying waterproof materials and replacing the skylight window above the altar.
Estimated Construction Period is 150 days (excluding rainy days).
The Work of Interior Renovation, especially considering the main structure of the church, includes:
High-altitude machine work, indoor scaffolding, the indoor paint job, cleaning and maintenance, and the public safety measures related to painting, scaffolding, the mobile shelf, cleaning and maintenance.
